We are heartbroken and deeply distressed by the continued violence against women in South Africa.
Behind every headline is a person whose life mattered, a family in grief and a community affected. We mourn those whose lives have been taken and stand with survivors and loved ones facing unimaginable pain.
No woman should have to measure her freedom against her safety. Women deserve to move through their communities, build their futures, work and live without fear of violence.
Solidarity asks more of us than a statement. We must listen to survivors, take reports of violence seriously, challenge behaviour that excuses abuse and share credible routes to support.
To those grieving, and to every woman who does not feel safe: we see the urgency of this moment. We stand with you.
